The New Rundown

Welcome one and all to the Kash Rundown, the hottest new blog in the country. I am your humble host Khanya Ncoyini and let me take the liberty to tell welcome you into what is soon to be the Internet's next big thing. The Kash Rundown is more than just a blog its an analysis of the country's events from a social, economic and even an economic point of view with a hint of old Ncoyini sarcasm and satire on the side. So sit back relax and prepare for Kash to drop some knowledge!

This week the Kash Rundown talk’s politics as quite recently the South African political landscape has been quite a hotspot for debate recently but no topic has been quite as controversial as the release from prison of the disgraced former national police commissioner Jackie Selebi on medical parole because of him having life threatening lung failure.

Why has this become a hot topic you ask? Because this sounds very familiar to the grounds on which the president’s former political associate Shabir Shaik was released after being found guilty on two counts of corruption in May 2005 then was provided medical parole in March 2009 after serving only two years of his sentence.

This would not be an issue of Shaik had gone back to prison but as luck would have it to this day he has not returned to his correctional facility on grounds of “ailing health” (tell that to his golf opponents.) The release has left opposition parties calling foul for over two years now but the ruling party as well as the department of correctional facilities have procrastinated any action in relation to providing an explanation as to why Mr. Shaik is still a free man.

Two years later it appears that history is repeating itself as yet another high ranking government official who was convicted on corruption charges is set free on medical parole (there must be a political bug going arround.)

The Rundown: The ANC is the most prestigious organizations in the country and with good reason, however it appears that it sometimes forgets that it is an organization that exists to serve the people. If they don’t want people constantly speculating all the time it would be wise to just lay their cards on the table. Both Selebi and Shaik are going to create an uproar among the not only the opposition but the citizens as well, which could all be avoided with a simple explanatory press release.
