100 years of selfless strugle?!

Hi, Hello and Welcome to the Kash Rundown. It is yet another beautiful day in Mzansi and your favorite Renegade is here to give you the Rundown on yet another burning issue in the Good Old Mother land. 2012 has shaped up to be quite a year and it is not even over so far the country has experienced  Police commissioners getting axed, former police commissioners getting released, Olympic Glory in London with 6 medals, Cases of Protest violence (Wait, that is actually pretty normal!) and my personal favorite the fall of Julius Malema (Who would have thought? And so close to Manguang! Eish!)

But 2012 in South Africa, for all its in intents and purposes should be remembered for South Africa’s favorite political party celebrating 100 years of existence and a commemoration of what they call 100 years of selfless struggle (Cough! Cough! Cough!) The ANC is South Africa’s symbol of democracy (Even though many academics vomit at that idea, I am looking at you Mark Fredricks) that is how it is and how it will always be.

The ANC was formed in 1912 and elected the legendary Dr. J L Dube to lead the movement in an effort to restore the rights of the black man taken by outsiders who claimed dominance in his own country. Over the years the ANC would be at the forefront of almost every attempted revolution in the country from the adaptation of the Freedom Charter in 1955, to the Armed Struggle of 1960’s and beyond. The ANC will forever be synonymous with South Africa’s Liberation. The likes of John Dube,  J T Gumede, Z R Mahabane, J S Moroka, Chief A J Luthuli, O R Tambo and of course N R Mandela have all been the presidents of the ANC, now as great as all those men are and their contributions to the country and its people, the same liberation movement has made a number of questionable decisions from the Apartheid era to their conquest of Parliament in 1994 from declaring an armed wing that could not beat the Apartheid regime, associating themselves with Russia during the cold war, allowing the Tripartite Alliance to exist after 1994, RDP, GEAR and the Arms deal cover up and also the media information bill.

However the ANC has done its fair share of good in the country keeping the people united in Apartheid, the houses built, the water provided, the electricity provided the jobs allocated and of course BEE.

The Rundown: The ANC can be a collection of demons or great national symbol depending how you want to look at it but no one can deny the earned to be at the top after a 100 years.
