Welcome, welcome one and all to your favorite blogging destination! It is I Kash Ncoyini (The Voice of stuff no one wants to talk about). It has been a while since I blogged because of this course (yes, kids journalism takes up a lot of my time) but I am back to talk about yet another hot SA topic. Recently South Africa has been plagued by a number of very violent protests for wage increases in the mining and transport sectors, that is also accompanied by the fact that the gang wars in the country, especially in the Western Cape are taking the lives of innocent children (despite the fact that crime stats have decreased, isn’t that right Mr. Police Commissioner?)
All of these factors have led to the government proposing a state of emergency which gives the police and if things get that far the army to enforce the law as they see fit, curfews to monitor people and what they are doing and who they are doing it with.
The Rundown: Honestly I really can’t decide if this is cool or a tragedy because the situation is out of hand but a state of emergency is just scary to think about.
